Max Claussen had become well placed in the Nazi Party. He was a lean, well-coiffed blond, aristocratic figure who represented the Aryan ideal. Money oiled the Nazi wheel and Max, who was a successful businessman, willingly provided funds through his profitable blueprint copying company in Berlin. Unknown to Werner and the others, he was a Soviet agent. Himmler himself had placed him in Werner’s network. Soviet Intelligence had tasked him with discovering the person behind Werner’s network, codenamed Otto. He reported directly to Pavel Sudoplatov.
