When I was in the Army stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, volksmarching was one of my favorite hobbies. I looked forward to the weekends when I could travel to different towns for those events. Volksmarching is a form of non-competitive hiking. Participants may opt to walk or run 5 kilometers (3.1 mi), 10 kilometers (6.2 mi), 20 kilometers (12 mi) or longer.
