Chapter 11 - Miles

I passed my tests with flying colors despite the fact that I spent more time thinking about where I wanted to take Mia on our next date than where you find igneous rocks or anything about statistical analysis. I called her when I decided on salsa dancing.

“I’d love to go!” she said when I finally got up the courage to ask her.

“Do you have a favorite place?”

“Let’s go to Tropicana on Richmond. I went there with Espy when that creep was stalking her, but I never got to dance. Did you hear about that? She was out in the parking lot taking the air out of his tires while I was inside watching him. Well, I actually did dance one dance, but it hardly counted. The guy didn’t know what he was doing at all, and he kept hitting on me. He was desperate. I don’t find that attractive at all. Do you?”

“Not at all.”

“Me either. I think that’s one of the reasons I like you. You’re so cool about everything. I feel like I can talk to you about anything. Has anyone else told you what a good listener you are, because you are, you know?

“Not really.”

“Well, rest assured. You are. You know how I know? I know because other people are always getting annoyed with me. They tell me they can’t get a word in edgewise. But you are so patient. I get the feeling that you actually enjoy hearing me talk.”

“I do.”

“That’s so cool, because I know I talk a lot. It’s just that my mind goes a million miles a minute,...
