Chapter 9

Remy was too preoccupied with her thoughts to notice anything, besides the bed, when she entered the room. She was confused, tired, and overwhelmed she thought she would fall asleep quickly but she had tossed and turned in bed for hours, finally drifting off into a fitful sleep.

Remy could hear a gentle tinkling of a bell, she reluctantly opened her eyes and tried to look around the room for the source of the sound. The room was pitch black, except for the line of light at the bottom of the door. Why didn’t I think to ask about the lights?

Remy pulled herself out of the bed, holding her arms out in front of her, and made her way over to the line of light along the floor. The tinkling had stopped, but she knew this was the door. Remy ran her hand along the right side of the door feeling for a handle of some sort. She found a rough wood handle and pulled the door open. Ilona was standing in the tunnel, hand on hip, looking annoyed.

“I have been ringing your bell for an hour.”

“I’m sorry, I must have been sleeping harder than I thought.”

“We are meeting with The Commander after breakfast.” Ilona’s eyes swept from her rumpled shirt to her naked feet. “I will show you the Bathing room, please bring clean clothes.”

Remy turned to go back into the room to fetch her items, but hastily turned back around. “how do I turn the lights on?”

Ilona’s stern face crinkled in amusement as a tiny laugh escaped. “You activate the sensor dear” Ilona reached over to the stone surface of the tunnel and pointed out a little turquoise gem embedded in the wall.

Remy Stepped out of the room, into the tunnel to look at what Ilona was pointing out to her.

“They are on the outer wall and the inner wall, Just inside the door frame.  Slide your hand like this” Ilona gracefully slid the tips of her fingers over ...
